this is because the valence shell cannot have more than 8 electrons...... therefore it have it's electronic configuration as 2,8,8,2

but the third orbit can have maximum 18 electrons so why do two electrons go to the fourth orbit

The formula to find the electronic configuration is 2(n2)
According to this;
clacium atomic number is 20
so it's electronic configuration is 2,8,10
