dry ice is the common name for the solid form of carbon dioxide.
its called dry ice because it doesn't melt into a vet liquid. Dry ice sublimates, which means it goes from its solid form directly to its gaseous form.

carbon-dioxide gas turns into dry ice when the temperature drops to - 110°F .
when dry ice is warmed above- 110°F , it changes from solid dry ice straight back to carbon-dioxide gas . since it never passes through the liquid phase , it is called dry ice !!!!
