why is carbonic acid not used as a reactant for producing a metal carbonate​

the reaction which occurs between an acid and a carbonate produces a salt , water and a release of carbon dioxide . a carbonate is a compound that contains the carbonate ion . and these ions are not used to make metal carbonate .So the  carbonic acid not used as a reactant for producing a metal carbonate​ .
