Why is chloride ion is stable in ionic compound??

Chloride ion has 18 electrons and thus has 8 electrons in its outermost shells, aquiring electronic configuration of argon which is very stable.

As you know that, chloride has 18 electrons. Which means that, it has 2,8,8 in it's orbit. As it has 8 then, according to rule, it is stable in ionic compound.
