Why is cholera still a problem for many countries, even though people learned much about the disease and how it spreads during the London epidemic of 1846?

During the 1846 Cholera spread as an epidemic in London due to the negligence of a single individual suffering from it who went to see a physician. Since Cholera spreads orally. It got spread from the physician to its patients and those spreading it onwards hence it became an epidemic. At that time no one knew much about it resulting in many people getting killed because of it.

It is still a problem in many under developed countries were proper sanitation principles are not followed and people are not aware regarding the cause and spread of the disease.

Also, many do not have an understanding of how the disease is transmitted and the ways in which it can be prevented, such as hand washing.

NGOs, such as WaterAid, have tried to limit the spread by building wells (using local labour) and educating communities on how to maintain them. Aid workers have also introduced soap and taught children how to wash their hand properly.
