Why is CO a better reducing agent than carbon at high temperature?

C is not reducing agent bcoz C also found in cristal n his oxidation no will be zero

because at above 983 k temp. , change in gibbs energy of carbon is more negative than CO so that it will reduce less negative metal oxide , such as ZN .
below 983k temp ., CO work better reducing agent because at this temp., Change in gibbs energy of CO is more negative than C .


in pyrometallurgy , if carbon or any form of carbon is used fir reducing agent so it is called smelting process.
