Carbon monoxide reacts with haemoglobin and form a stable compound carboxyhemoglobin. carboxyhemoglobin is 300 times more stable than oxyhemoglobin. Formation of carboxyhemoglobin reduces the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood,as a result of this suffocation takes place. Low level poisoning results in headache and drowsiness, high level poisoning may cause death.
