why is conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid an oxidation reaction?

CH₃ CH₂OH + Alk. KMnO₄ →  CH₃COOH

We know :

In oxidation reaction there is addition of oxygen and removal of

hydrogen .

In this case oxygen is added ( one O atom )  and hydrogen is

removed out .

Since it followed the method of redox or oxidation reaction .

That's why this conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid an oxidation reaction .
