Cotton Textile Industry is one of the largest industries because of the following reasons:-

1. It gives jobs to people engaged in agriculture such as cotton boll pickers as well as weavers, dyers, spinners, etc.

2. By creating demands, it also leads to the development of industries like packaging, mill stores, dyes, etc.

3. It is a major foreign exchange earner. Cotton yarn is exported to various countries like USA, UK, France, Russia, etc.

4. India has world class quality of spinning and contributes to about one fourth of total trade in cotton yarn. Moreover we have the second largest capacity of spindles (43.13 million spindles).

5. The cotton textile Industry also contributes significantly to industrial production and GDP.
