Why is cotton wool used to make wicks for oil lamps? What will happen if synthetic fibres
are used in place of cotton wool?

We use cotton to make Wick of a spirit lamp because Cotton has thread strands Which act like fine capillaries. Cotton Threads by capillary action draws up a steady supply of the oils in the lamps.

Answer:

Cotton wool have small many holes and it can absorb oil and the in the holes there are also air which can catch fire easily but synthetic fibres cannot because cannot absorb oil so if we do that it will burn fastly.
