Why is cr+2 reducing and mn+3 oxidizing when both have d4 configuration.

cr+2 has the configuration 3d4 it looses electron to form cr3+ which is stable 3d3 configuration. so it is reducing. on the other hand Mn3+ also has 3d4 conf. but it can gain electron to form 2+ which is stable 3d5 configuration. hence it is oxidized
