Why is current a base unit and electric charge a derivated one? Shouldn't it be the opposite? Sounds so weird

Really a good question . Charge is not a basic unit because charge can be accumulated by current in a certain time i.e q =IT . Where I is current and T is time . Without current there is no charge . But without charge we can develop current eg. Using generators principle , there is no charge in generators to develop current
