Dear Student,
◆ Dark reaction called so because -
- Dark reactions are independent of light.
- These reactions take place even in dark at night.
- Hence, it is called dark reaction.
● Extra information -
- Calvin cycle is known as light independent reaction / dark reaction.
- It takes place in chloroplast in presence of RuBisCo enzyme.
- Calvin cycle require ATP & NADPH for production of glucose.
- Though dark reactions are light independent, they must occur during the day.
- Usually Calvin cycle results in gain of 6 fixed C-atoms.
Thanks dear. Hope this helps you..
