why is darkness compared to brooding dog? In the poem my grandmother's house written by kamala das
Answers
Answer:
Das reminisces about the past times when she used to spend some time in her grandmother's house. To her, those were the good happy old days when she really had someone who really loved her i.e. her grandmother.
But in her present state, she is desperate to receive love “at least in small change”. The grandmother's house symbolises a beacon of hopeful past, everything related to the house is imbued with love and she felt proud for being a part of such a home.
Even the darkness of that house is being seen as friendly, such that she wants to take some of it and bring it to her present murky place where the darkness, like a friendly pet dog, sit beside her and give company to her lonely presence. The “brooding dog” may also mean the protection she is seeking from forces keen to depress her.
