Why is democratic government considered to be an important means of protecting the freedom of people

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. It sounds trite, but it is so true! More so than most people realize, unless they’ve been in positions of power themselves (as I have). When you’re in power, everyone laughs at your jokes, nods in a agreement — you’re the man — and somehow better than those around you. When I look back, I am mortified as to how I felt and how I behaved.
Democracy provides a potential stop gap when authoritarian government goes too far. But democracy can’t do it all by itself.
There must be laws in place to protect the democracy.
The voters must be Libertarian — believing it is important to protect the rights of individuals and integrity of the nation. Without Libertarian ideals, a democracy can be used to enslave the public, as in Venezuela.
Why is our nation about to stumble, big time? Because the voters are not Libertarian enough.
In a real democracy, the people choose based on all the facts available. The people decide how much money the government should spend based on how much taxes the voters are willing to pay. But we have circumvented that. We give out all the goodies, and hide the costs with unsustainable debts. Once again, power corrupts, and the government has become very corrupt, willing to destroy the economy in the long term as long as they get re-elected in the short term.
I have been saying that Armageddon (a debt implosion) is coming. In the past, I felt it would arrive in the next 1 to 5 years triggered by an unknowable event. But now I think it is 6 months to a year away.
Bit Coin, Tesla, the stock price of Amazon, Costco, while other stocks fall behind, and the increasing volatility of the stock market are all an indicator of a bubble that will soon pop. They fall into a pattern that repeats itself — about 6 months to a year ahead of when a financial meltdown will begin.
This meltdown will be partly caused by debt. It is unavoidable. It will be caused because our politicians are corrupt and irresponsible, willing to watch our debt grow and grow and grow — always having an excuse for the next stimulus program by the Fed, which puts us further in debt. Cut taxes, and we’ll grow out of it. Has never happened, and won’t this time. If you don’t have at least some libertarian leanings that you rely on when you vote, you don’t really support individual freedoms. And you sort of deserve the financial pain that is sure to come, starting within a year.
