Because particles of solid are closed to each other comparatively with liquid.

Hey!

________________

Usually, liquids have more volume than solids due to movement of liquids, as intermolecular spaces between particles of liquid are comparatively larger than solids because particles of solids are tightly packed due to strong forces of attraction.

But liquids have lower density than that of solids because liquids have higher volume.

Density = Mass / Volume

Density is inversely proportional to volume.
The greater the volume, the lesser the density, the less the volume, they greater the density.

Exception -:

• Mercury , it's liquid at room temperature, it's dense than solids.

• Aerogel, human made solid, it's less dense than liquid ( about 500 times).
