Henry Louis Vivian Derozio was one of the most prominent figures of 19th century Bengal . He is still remembered today because of his various contributions for the upliftment of the society -
- Derozio is primarily remembered as a social reformer of the 19th century . He was a teacher of the Hindu College . He encouraged his students to debate freely and question authority and was dismissed from the college on charges of propagating revolutionary ideas against Hinduism .
- He founded the Academic Association which organised debates with a deep love for their motherland .
