Answer:

the use of diamonds as jewelry, but there are more diamonds which are used as cutting tools than that in jewelry. In the previous blog you might have read that how very rare diamonds can be used in jewelry- the ones which aren’t used in jewelry aren’t dumped, they are not a waste. In fact such diamonds are used for industrial purpose and since diamonds are the hardest material, majority of them are used for various cutting purposes.

To tell you in a bit technical way yet to be understood by a layman- every substance is rated on Moh’s scale of hardness. Hardness refers to the resistance of certain mineral to scratching. It is a property by which minerals may be described relative to a standard scale of 10 minerals known as the Moh’s scale of hardness.

Since diamonds are the hardest known substance having hardness set to 10, while glass which are used on windows have a hardness of 5.5. What this means is that any material which has hardness within a range from 5.5 to 10 can be used to cut glass. And diamonds being the hardest substance can precisely and accurately cut glass in any desired shape or form.
