Why is diffusion insufficient to meet the oxygen requirementsof multi-cellular organisms like humans?

diffusion is not an appropriate method to meet the needs of oxygen because all the organs of the human body are not in the direct contact with the surroundings. It takes almost 2 to 3 years for oxygen to move in whole body through diffusion.

In multicellular organisms like humans, all the body cells are not in direct contact with the surrounding environment . Thus , every cell of the body will not get oxygen as by the process of diffusion from the environment .

Therefore diffusion is insufficient to meet

the oxygen requirements of multicellular

organisms .
