why is diffusion insufficient to meet the oxygen requirements of multicellular organisms like humans

That's because multicellular organisms like us have very complex design of our body. Plus all the cells may not be in direct contact with the surrounding environment. Thus, simple diffusion will not meet the requirements of all the cells in the organism.

Diffusion is insufficient to meet the oxygen requirements of multicellular organisms like humans because the body of humans are very complex and all the cells of body are not in contact with the environment so its time consuming process while in unicellular organisms all the cells of the body are in the contact of environment so diffusion is better process for unicellular organisms than multicellular organisms.
