why is DNA copying necessary during reproduction

For example, parent cell will be able to produce two daughter cells with same number of chromosomes or DNA to that of parent cell only when it produces another copy of its DNA by the replication process. Duringreproduction the DNA in the nucleus replicates itself to produce the another set of chromosomes or DNA.
