it is. Starting from DNA replication to transcription to translation, everything is synchronised with a specific direction. Without this nature of DNA, every single living creature on earth would have been different in appearance to each other just like the aliens!

It is called 'semi-conservative' as both of the produced DNA molecules willcontain 1 new strand and 1 old, 'template' strand. (i.e. 1 old DNA strand is 'conserved' in each)
