Answer:

As per Indian law and customs, Dowry is a social problem but not Alimony. A woman who is NOT economically independent usually brings dowry to earning man. If the man is rich and earning well, dowry goes up. Dowry is NOT given to a poor man or beggar or homeless person. The man’s background is checked and his past , present and future life is diagnosed in 360 degree angle before giving dowry. But if the person gets divorced from his wife, whether he is rich, poor, homeless or living on streets, he has to give alimony and most of his wealth to this woman and her family. This is a definite social problem!
