Earthworm are called friends of farmer because   1.Earthworm moves through the soil that loosens and aerates the soil. This also helps the water to reach the roots quickly. 2.Earthworm 's excreta increases the fertility of the soil.  3.After their death, they get decomposed and add humus to the soil.

earthworms are called a farmer's friend because of the following reasons-

  1. various microbes are present in he soil which helps in degradation and decomposition by increasing the soil fertility. earthworms stimulate the microbial activity in the soil.
  2. earthworms dug holes in the soil thus making it porous. this helps in increasing the soil porosity which in turn increases the water retention capacity making it moisture available.
  3. they also with their activities mix the soil content .
  4. there are several ways through which they increases fertility and stimulates plant growth.

hence, for these reasons they are considered as farmer's friend.
