Why is Eichhornia crassipes called as 'Terror of Bengal'?

Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) basically grows on top of rivers and oceans, and sucks all the oxygen from the water bodies for its growth. This leads to the death of the fish, which is the staple diet in West Bengal. Hence called the “Terror of Bengal” !
