Hello mate...

For the atoms in which energy needs to be supplied in order to gain electron such enthalpy is called electron gain enthalpy...

While the elements which can easily accept electrons are said to have positive electron gain enthalpy...

Answer:

Energy is released When an electrons is added to the atom. Therefore the electron gain enthalpy is negative... noble gases have large positive electrons gain enthalpy . This is because the extra electron is placed in the next higher principal quantum energy level.
