Why is electron gain enthalpy of sulphur more negative than oxygen?

Since oxygen has its Valence electrons on second energy level and due to its small size, repulsion between electrons is higher in oxygen than sulphur. Which makes it more difficult to add another electron.

This is an anomalous behaviour of oxygen.

the release of energy is represented by negative values . The atom in order to gain stability tends to gain electrons . Sulphur has more electron gain enthalpy than Oxygen because when an electron is added to oxygen the added electron goes to smaller n = 2 quantum level
