in angiosperms, the MMC produces 4 megaspores but only 1 remains functional...hence they are monosporic as they develop from single megaspore..

hope it is clear to u .. :)

Answer for Class 12 Biology Students

Monosporic development of embryo sac:

 During the process of megasporogenesis, megaspore mother cell (MMC) undergoes meiotic division to form four megaspores.

 Three mega spores degenerate, leaving one megaspore functional.

 Functional megaspore develops into female gametophyte or embryo sac.

 This method of embryo sac formation from a single megaspore is called monosporic development.
