Answer:

Epidermis is a protective tissue as it protects the cell from any damages and prevents the entry of bacteria, virus etc. It is a type of layer which has a matrix called Cutin in it. Cutin does not let the water to go through it and thus, reduces the rate of transpiration.

Epidermis has other roles too. Some of them are:

1. Epidermis is present in the stomata and has guard cells which determine the opening and closing of stomata.

2. Epidermis has its own matrix called as Cutin which reduces the rate of transpiration.

Hope this helps.

Answer:

Epidermis Is considered as a protective tissue because it forms the outer layer of the plant body and acts as a physical barrier between the outside and inside surroundings. upper layer of the epidermis are made up of dead cells , and so they have no other function than protection.
