because alkyne posess triple bond ...
which is impossible in methyne .. as you know that valency of carbon is 4 and in methyne there is only one carbon hence it is not possible

Ethyne has two carbon molecules to form triple bond whereas methane have only one carbon molecule so it cannot form triple bond. Therefore ethyne is the 1st member of homologous series of alkynes.
