why is euglena both autotrophic and heterotrophic

Chloroplast with in the euglena trap sunlight that is used for photosynthesis and euglena also consume food.

Euglena involved both because during day time euglena carried photosynthesis which is autotrophic while some in dark become heterotrophic because they mixotrophs involve chloroplast
