Why is f of convex lens negative and that:of:cancave lens positive?

but your question is wrong because the focal length of convex lens is positive and the focal length of concave lens is negative because of the fact that according to cartesian plane system when measured from *O* the focus of convex lens lies in the first quadrant which is positive and the focus of the concave lens lies in the second quadrant which is negative when measured from the optical centre and in the case of mirror the same fact is applied but the conditions are opposite.
