Fe(OH)_3 colloid positively charged, when prepared by addingFeCl_3 to

hot water:

  • When FeCl_3 is with a large quantity ofH_2O ( water ) then it will proceed to prepare a sol -Fe(OH)_3  where the Fe3^+ ions are present in an excess amount which are also common to lattice of the sol.
  • Therefore, it will be adsorbed on the sol by giving the sol an overall positive charge.
  • So we can say that adsorption of the positively charged Fe3^+ ions by the sol of hydrated ferric oxide gives a final result of colloid which have an overall positive charge.
