The stem of the aquatic plants is flexible because it helps the leaves to float.
They bend with the flow of water so the plants do not get damaged by strong current.

Flexible stem is useful to the aquatic plants. The reason is thatthese stems are designed in such a way that they have pockets which are hollow and are filled with air.
In the leaves of these stems are some cells called air cells and leaf stalks which play important role in keeping them at the sunlight surface. Their stems are hollow and light so that the flowers and leaves can float on water.
One of the function is that they breathe through the pores or through stomata on their broad leaves.
Hope this will help you.
