About 70 percent of Earth's surface is covered in water. Of all the water on Earth 97 percent is in the oceans. That only leaves 3 percent as freshwater. Of that small amount of freshwater almost 2 percent is locked up in glaciers and ice at the North and South poles. The remaining 1 percent of freshwater is mostly groundwater, with a small fraction filling the world's lakes and rivers.

These spheres represent all of Earth's water, Earth's liquid fresh water, and water in lakes and rivers. The largest sphere represents all of Earth's water, and its diameter is about 860 miles (the distance from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Topeka, Kansas). It would have a volume of about 332,500,000 cubic miles (mi3) (1,386,000,000 cubic kilometers (km3)). The sphere includes all the water in the oceans, ice caps, lakes, and rivers, as well as groundwater, atmospheric water

this is a good question I think why freshwater is important?

fresh water is important because these source of human beings to survive today we are more than 200 billion people living in this world so everyone need fresh water you know fresh water which is mainly H2O is only 2% in our earth and in that 0.3 % of freshwater is in the underground of the earth and remaining freshwater or frozen ice which is in Antarctica if you are living in the ice glaciers country you notice that the eyes of the freshwater which we can do this what are the main source of human life as I have said in the first time we have to conserve the fresh water for the future generation we have to conserve them because we can bring a saltwater which is NaCl is mixed in the sea water it may lead to diagnosis problem and may lead to kidney problems also so we can only drink fresh water is freshwater or only waters' which are suitable to a body
