friction is said to be a necessary evil because it is useful as well as harmful. friction helps us to walk, write, hold things, lift objects. So it is necessary in our lives. Without friction many essential processes can not be done. On the other hand, it is also  unnecessary

at times. it sometimes results in loss of energy, wear and tear of parts of machinery, due to which it  also damages things. so it is an essential evil.

1) without friction we cannot write, walk and transmit energy from one place to other .friction is used in gripping , holding objects with our hands, climbing a ladder or a Tree e.t.c.

2) it is responsible for wear and Tear of various part of Machines. it also wears our materials like screws ,bell bearing or soles of shoes .

friction has both advantages as well as disadvantages.

without friction we won't be able to walk or run and friction even cause wear and tear of objects. Hence friction is called ‘a necessary evil’.
