Typically high friction is needed in power transmission systems, like in the car, for example. You don’t want low friction, since then you would loose energy. In the positioning systems, you also would like to have rather high friction, so that you dont slip and dont make errors due to slip.

To increase friction, you can use high friction materials, for example steel rubbed against cadmium shows friction coefficient of 1.5. Environment impacts a lot, for example Stainless Steel -Stainless Steel in air shows friction coefficient of 0.3, while in vacuum 2.9. You could also try to use extremely flat surfaces or rough to increase friction.

Friction refers to the force which opposes your motion.

It's considered to be evil because of all the wear and tear it cause & also decreases the efficiency of the machines.

But without friction we can't do the basic activities such as walking, grip anything, Car cannot be stopped, tyres would stop rolling and start slipping.

Hope this helps.
