Friedal acylation is important because it form several biological compounds, including DNA. Friedal acylation reacts a lewis acid, AICI3, with an acyl halogen to form an acylium ion.

In a human body, some of the compounds like vitamin D and DNA play a very important role. They contain an aromatic ring that needs to be extended with the carbon atoms in order to make more compounds. This ring is stable. So a method is used to extend that aromatic compound with carbon atoms. That method is called the Friedel acylation.
