Why is Gamhusia introduced into drains and ponds? [AH India 2014]

Gambusia is a kind of fish that preys upon the larvae of mosquitoes. It is therefore introduced into the drains and ponds. To feed on Mosquito larvae / to eliminate the vectors responsible for causing malaria.
