The areas near Ganga and Brahmaputra is highly populated as it is common for people to settle near water bodies especially rivers as it is easy to obtain water for agriculture and other purposes. Also the river basin has fertile soil suitable for cultivation and growing crops. This is why the river basins are highly populated.
