Geographical Knowledge Is Important because:-
- Muslims were required to specify the direction of Makkah from several locations for the execution of prayers and for fixing the times for the five daily prayers, which differed according to latitude
- Muslims also required an understanding of landscape, paths, and areas for the provisioning of animals in order to schedule the annual pilgrimage to Makkah, as well as to execute the everyday business of the empire.
- The understanding of geography, duration and the factors of different climates also helped Muslims to foresee conditions for fasting during Ramadan.
The above importance of geographical knowledge was made possible by a Muslim scientist and mathematician named Muhammad ibn Musa-al-Khawarizmi who laid the academies for Arabic geographical science in the ninth century.
