this is bcz it is generated from ground water and groundwater is a precious resource available in ltd quantity

Well in terms of energy, nature follows the pretty precise law before functioning for the environment.
According to the first law thermodynamics, " Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed " in simple energy is conserved in all forms.
If we talk about sources of energy, then there are mainly two types of sources available i.e., external and internal.
Here Geothermal energy comes from the internal source of energy for fulfilling human needs and various experiments.
The reason, why it's not generated on large scale, is because of its surface instability, releases harmful gases underneath while under operation at extreme temperatures, also causes earthquakes ( coz of drilling hot rocks ) etc.
