I haven't studied much about glucose yet but from what I have studied i think that glucose is not an electrolyte. Now, approaching from the point of view of biochemistry, electrolytes refers to the minerals present in our body like Ka, Ca, Na,Mg, Cl etc. We lose electrolytes when we strenuous activities and they must be replenished immediately. Now, your source of confusion, according to me, probably is GLUCOSE ELECTROLYTE DRINKS. Firstly, electrolyte drinks mostly contain sodium, potassium and carbohydrates. Now, it is surprising to know that carbohydrates like sucrose and glucose are present in an electrolyte drink ( they are added because they enhance the process of nutrition absorption and thus provide more energy) but it doesn't necessarily mean that they are electrolyte, does it? The concentration of the sugar may be either isotonic (as same in the blood ) or hypotonic ( lower than that of blood).

So, you have to realize that the name electrolyte drinks has only been given because it replenishes the necessary electrolytes in out body along with providing carbohydrate. They may be alternatively called "energy drink"or even "sports drinks". So, you shouldn't get confused with the na
