Answer: Godan is a novel by Premchand written in the early 20th century. It is the best work of the novelist and is a masterpiece in the World Literature.

Godan is considered as an epic because it has an epic dimensions. The novel presents a picture of the society on a large canvas as we find in an epic. The novel has a number of characters and episodes in it which makes it an epic. An epic is long and narrative and carries a perticular style with high poetic diction. Although Godan doesnt follow that style but has all the characteristics of an epic as all sections of society are presented like farmers, the zamindars and businessmen. Many themes and images are seen in the novel like naked poverty, hunger, exploitation of poors, status of women, love affairs, inter caste marraige, love and duty, industrial growth, widow marriage, etc.

Hence the novel looks like an epic.
