why is godavari river is also known as dhakshin ganga?

since it is the largest peninsular river like the largest himalayan rivers. and it is like ganga in the south so it is called as dakshin ganga. mark as brainliest I will be grateful.

1- The Godavari is the largest peninsular river.
2-It's drainage basin is also the largest among the peninsular rivers. The basin covers parts of Maharashtra , MP and Odisha
3- The godavari is joined by a number of tributries such as purna and the wardha
4- because of its length and the area it's covers it is also known as Dakshin Ganga
