Why is Government of India imposing a ban on the use of polythene bags? Suggest two alternatives to use these bags and explain how this ban is likely to improve the environment.

Because only 5℅ polythene bags are recycled.
In that way, this is not good for the environment.

Another reason is in Pacific ocean sea turtle choke on them because they seems that it's jellyfish.

Shortly, polythene bags causing problems in animals also.

Jute bags, Denim bags, Canvas bags etc are the alternatives.

because these bags can be recycled and causing no harm to the environment and living organisms.

PLASTICS ARE NON BIODEGRADABLE SUBSTANCES HENCE THY CANNOT BE BROKEN DOWN BY THE ACTION OF MICROBES.THIS CAUSES SOIL DEPLETION,LOSS OF MARINE LIFE ETC....
JUTE AND CLOTH BAGS SHOULD BE PREFERRED.
THIS DECREASES THE BAD IMPACT OF PLASTIC AND ALSO BRINGS DEMAND FOR JUTE AND COTTON INDUSTRIES CREATING OPPORTUNITIES
