Greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth's surface. When the Sun's energy reaches the Earth's atmosphere, some of it is reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases. ... The absorbed energy warms the atmosphere and the surface of the Earth.

Earth has a layer of covering known as Atmosphere. In the atmosphere, many gases are present which used to keep the earth warm by not allowing the sun heat to escape. This keeps the earth warm.Green house gases are CO2,methane,water vapour, chlorofluorocarbons, etc.

In case of plants,To grow exotic and indigenous spicies, plants are kept in place covered with glass which do not allow sun light to escape and keeps inside warm.this is known as Green house effect.
