Why is heat of combustion better than heat of hydrogenation for comparing stability of alkenes?

hy here is the answer.....

  • The higher the heat of combustion, the higher the energy level of the molecule, the less stable the molecule." The only way I've been able to make sense of this is by thinking that lower energy bonds require more energy (heat) to break, therefore the H[Reactants] is larger than their higher energy isomers.

Heats of hydrogenation can be used to measure the relative stability of isomeric alkenes. Heats of hydrogenation correlate with structure just like heats of combustion do. The greater the heat of hydrogenation, the less stable the alkene.
