Helen Keller was born in 1880 in Alabama, USA. When she was a year and a half old she became very sick and the sickness left her blind and deaf for life. At the age of 6 she got a wonderful teacher named Anne Sullivan who stood by the side of the blind girl throughout her learning life. Her parents took her to Dr. Alexander Graham Bell where she learnt fingertip alphabet and shortly afterward to write. In 6 months she learnt 625 words.
By age 10, Helen mastered Braille as well as the manual alphabet and even learned to use the typewriter. By the time she was 16, Helen could speak enough to go to college. In 1904 she graduated from Radcliffe college. Her teacher Anne stayed with her throughout those years.
