There are two resaons, why holi is celebrated-

1. On this day, Prahlad sat on holika... Holika had been granted an invisible sheet from lord Vishnu that would not allow her body to burn. But lord vishnu, used a slight breeze and the sheet lifted in the air and landed on prahlad.

2. One day, Lord Krishna returned home sad.... he said to his mother, 'why is Radha so fair and I so black?" Yashoda, (his mother) told him to smaer colours on Radha so that she would not look pretty......

Answer:

Holi is celebrated 2 days on first days it is said that Hiranyakashipu the father of Prahlad tries to burn his son with the help of his sister holika because she got a magical cloth and anyone who wears it would not feel the heat of fire . So he plans that she would sit with Prahlad in fire and Prahlad would burnt out but the cloth flies to the head of Prahlad . Hence Prahlad life was saved and holika died . So on this day we burn our bad habits in that holy fire . On the next day we celebrate the win of good over evil by eating sweets and play with colors.
